Israeli Commercial Parodies Hamas Assassination While US TV Watchers Debate Failing Starlet’s Baby-Aimed Tantrum

OK, we get it. Life in the Middle East is way more real. You don’t have to go rubbing our noses in it.

While Americans are spending another day up-in-tweets about the Lindsay Lohan/E Trade litigation, over in Israel a supermarket chain is airing a TV commercial that parodies the assassination of a Hamas leader in Dubai earlier this year. The ad, reports the BBC, features garishly-costumed actors and security-camera-esque footage (blatant and unabashed references to the successful assassination scheme), as well as the tag line “We offer killer prices.”

No punches pulled. Man. You couldn’t just let us have this one, could you? We get a healthy nationwide debate going — Is Lindsay really a milkaholic? Does she have one-name star power? Is that baby wearing underwear? — and you gotta go and one-up us like this with your edginess and your jihad. Sheesh. Let someone else have the drama for once, wouldja.

NHM’s Sphere of Influence Expands, Now Includes Healthy Women

According to a source at the magazine, last Friday’s No Happy Medium feel-good video post gave the staff of Women’s Health such a giggle that they were inspired to tweet the E Trade baby outtakes clip to their Twitter followers:

Never mind that they don’t acknowledge outright where they got the idea, or that No Happy Medium had absolutely nothing to do with how hilarious those commercials are in the first place. Being a journalist — or, ahem, a blogger — is all about letting the world know about the neat and wonderful things other people are doing.

Feel Good Friday

A couple videos to warm the cockles of your cold and tired heart. Maybe even the rest of it, too.

First, a story of nurturing, separation, and the enduring power of love. And of shopping for wildlife at a department store. Money can buy you love: Lion Love.

(Full ending with original soundtrack here.)

For something a little less involved/narrative-based, put your eyes on Keepon, the hugably cute dancing robot that made a splash on the YouTube back in 2007 and was subsequently co-opted by researchers who use it to study autism and other important stuff. But its research value aside, and whether or not you’ve seen it before, it can’t fail to light up your day just a little.

For a new twist I suggest you have a friend G-Chat you the link so that you can have the video run mini-sized in the corner while you trudge through your inbox. NB: The song is great, but Keepon’s squishy moves work their magic even with the volume off.

And of course, I can always rely on the E Trade Baby. Holy smokes, these get me every freakin’ time.
